August Flash Fiction: Day 1
Good morning, writers!
Thanks for joining me, I hope you enjoy this monthlong creative challenge!
Each day a new post with a picture, word count limit, and occasional additional twist will be published at 7:00 am EDT (I'm a little late today!)
You will then have until the next day's post to write your story. You can then either keep it to yourself (a perfectly valid way to participate!) or you can share your story itself in the comments, or share a link in the comments where we can read your story (blog, Instagram etc.)
My daily story will be added to the post under the picture within the same deadline.
Aug. 1 Word Limit: 150
Aug. 1 picture:
The air coming across the boardwalk smells like the ocean, which smells like so much more than salt.
Her friends walk ahead of her, the wind cutting up their words and stealing their laughter so it is further from her still.
They don’t walk with crybabies, that’s what Emma said.
She cut her fingers on a shell while they were exploring. The beads of red had fascinated them. The tears had not.
They jostled her, trying to tease her out of crying while she wrapped her fingers in the hem of her shirt.
When she didn’t stop, Emma stalked away, and the others waited a moment, but then followed.
Now, she glances up and sees that Sean has fallen behind the group, he looks over his shoulder and motions to catch up.
He says he has money for ice cream and she smiles.
Even while the others keep on walking.
